The Three Horse Shoes, Branton, Doncaster

Every Wednesday we go out for tea as a family.

We had read that The Three Horse Shoes in Branton had recently re-opened following a big refurbishment and new menu, subsequently we thought we’d give it a try for our Wednesday outing.

We had booked a table for 4 adults and 2 children with it being a family friendly venue.

The staff were very pleasant on arrival and handed the kids some colouring sheets and crayons to keep them entertained while we glanced over the new menu – which can be found on their website if you’d like to look before going.

We had all decided on what we wanted to eat and ordered at the bar, where we could set up a tab to add drinks and desserts to later on.

For starters:

My partners daughter had;

Grilled Lamb Kofta Kebabs

Served with naan bread and fresh tomato & red onion salsa. Choose your sauce from:

  • Hot peri-peri

  • Cooling minted sour cream

Price: £3.79

Me and my partner had;

Crispy Potato Skins

Served with sour cream. Choose your topping:

  • Cheese (V)

  • Cheese & beef chilli

  • Cheese & bacon

  • Cheese & BBQ pulled pork

Price: £3.29

The bbq pulled pork was soooo tasty and definitely accompanied the sour cream tremendously. Something I wouldn’t think of putting together.

Next on to the Mains:

My partners daughter attempted;

The All American Platter

Half a rack of BBQ glazed pork ribs, BBQ glazed chicken wings & southern fried chicken pieces, grilled corn, onion rings and seasoned chips. (Uprgraded to sweet potato fries)

Price: £9.79

The portion was humongous! More than reasonable for the price, we couldn’t believe our eyes and the ribs cooked to perfection just falling off the bone.

Her boyfriend ordered;

The Messy Mexican Burger

Grilled chicken breast topped with beef chilli, melted cheddar, sour cream and jalapenos.

Price: £7.39

This certainly lived up to its name 😂😂 covered in melted cheddar and sour cream without a care in the world as it was so delicious. I think I recall my 5 year old daughter commenting he had used all of our napkins!

My partner opted for;

Classic Beef Burger
All our burgers are served in a lightly toasted open brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo. Served with chips (upgraded to sweet potato fries) and BBQ sauce on the side. All burgers include a soft drink.

Upgraded to a double!

Price: £6.39

The children chose from the over 5’s menu;
4 cod fingers & tomato ketchup to dip

  • One Served with corn on the cob and mash
  • And the other served with cheesey jacket potato and beans

Usually for a kids meal you don’t receive a lot, but I think because they do Over 5’s and Under 5’s choices this is a great idea for children with either lots of appetite or fussy eaters.

Lastly, I decided on;

The Tennessee
8oz* Sirloin steak topped with crispy streaky bacon, bourbon glaze (alcohol) and melted cheddar. Served with grilled half tomato, grilled flat mushroom, onion rings and seasoned chips. (Upgraded to sweet potato fries)

Price: £11.79

This came to our table sizzling away on a sizzling skillet. The steak was medium and cooked to taste. It was succulent and juicy with no gristle or fat. The jack Daniel’s sauce was a stunning choice to marry up with the steak, cheese and bacon!

Now on to the puddings – the best bit ♡

My daughter had;

A warm Belgian waffle, vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries – kids menu

My son had a recommendation from the waitress;

Build a masterpiece! Two scoops of vanilla ice cream with Cadbury® Dairy Milk Buttons, fresh strawberries, milk chocolate pieces and chocolate sauce. – kids menu

He literally made his own sundae, adding chocolate pieces, sauce and strawberries to make a pattern and enjoyed every bit of it!

Me and my partner had 2 different adult Sundaes;

Nestle® Mint Aero Sundae
Vanilla Ice cream with Nestle® Mint Aero bubbles, chocolate brownie pieces, fluffy cream, Belgian chocolate sauce and a wafer.

Price: £4.49

Honeycomb Explosion Sundae
Crunchy honeycomb pieces with vanilla ice cream, fluffy cream, sticky toffee sauce and a wafer.

Price: £3.69

My partners daughter couldn’t wait to try her;

Nestle® Rolo Cheesecake
Creamy vanilla cheesecake swirled with toffee sauce and topped with chocolate ganache and Nestle® Rolo’s served with Belgian chocolate & Devon toffee sauce and fluffy cream.

Price: £3.69

My thoughts?

All in all, it was a lovely family night out. Welcoming and friendly staff. Children welcome. Very generous portions. Amazingly cooked food. Lots to choose from and will definitely be visiting again in the near future!
